A “call” to all Shareholders and Institutional Investors of Telecom Italia

Being a shareholder means you can have an active role in a companies decision making that can help to change internal structures and business strategies throughout a company.

We are a group of residents in the area of Tivoli, a short distance from Italy’s capital city Rome. We have been waiting since January 2010 to be connected to Telecom Italia’s landline network.

The extraordinarily overdue connection to the Telecom Italia network has now reached an unacceptable level of discomfort.

Physical  inconvenience;

  1. Emergency service communication (in case of fire, burglary or misfortune etc) limited to mobile phones, which is in itself meagre in this area
  2. General isolation for the elderly, physically impaired and expectant women
  3. Non functioning elevators/lifts in apartment blocks due to a legal requirement of a fixed phone line in case of an incident

Adding an unnecessary financial burden to the household budget:

  1. Resorting to the sole usage of mobile communications
  2. Expensive /unreliable mobile internet connection for leisure or work

Our mid to long term outlook and concerns;

  1. Stalling  property value growth
  2. Directly holding back the development of the local economy

According to the Telecom Italia Service Charter :

“The activation of the telephone line will take place within a maximum time of 10 days, except for cases of exceptional technical difficulty and in cases of timing agreed with the Customers, including the date of the appointment indicated; in case of delay you will automatically receive an indemnity equivalent to 50% of the monthly fixed fee paid by you for each working day of delay”

None of the above has been adhered to. FROM 28TH January 2010, our continuous compound requests for a fixed line have been endlessly cancelled/deferred, without plausible motivation, communication, or expected timeline for the completion of all/any necessary work required to guarantee this essential commodity, either from 187 (Telecom Italia’s client reception) or a Telecom Italia representative.

Telecom Italia has (over recent months) hired Hollywood films stars and well known national personalities to promote its services, but the sad fact is that they are clearly unwilling to invest similar resources in what really matters.

Just one in the series of Telecom Ads

And that is to simply connect a small local community to the outside world, and assist the growth of the local economy.

We are not going to ask for support as we feel common sense prevails. Instead we would simply like you to take, just a second, and consider carefully each resolution/agenda item put before you by Telecom Italia’s management for shareholder approval at the 2012 AGM.
